Our Operation and Ethics
The Red Queen is more than a Tattoo Shop. This family operation was created in 1996 to support the dreams of our daughter Alethea, as well as the vision of Charla and Tarwater to provide a safe and sane place for the community to participate in this ancient rite of passage and personal expression. Tattoos have been around for thousands of years but only recently have we been able to lobby for safer, healthier practices. The Red Queen supports the creation of health codes to regulate the industry and is an active participant with the Hamilton County Health Department in developing stronger codes for Body Piercing and Tattooing for the State of Tennessee. We provide only the safest services and will not waiver simply to make money on fads like tongue piercing. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY SERVICE THAT WILL PUT YOUR LIFE OR LIFESTYLE IN JEOPARDY. We avoid any body piercings that can create long term damage or scarring to the body. This also means we do not Tattoo faces or hands in any manner that would make it impossible for you to get a job. We seek to educate and support a creative and responsible practice. Tattoo can be fun and freeing. They can also cause conflict. We encourage customers to think about the process before making the decision that will be on your body for a lifetime!Our Founders and Directors are Charla Hermann and John Tarwater. Charla comes from an acclaimed, award winning, corporate media background of over 25 years and brings over 35 years of Holistic healing training and practice to the programs. Writing and producing the documentary series: QUEST OF THE EARTHKEEPERS is one of the many ways Charla share her many creations through this web site. Tarwater brings his skills as and artist, designer and builder to this organization. Not only is he a popular tattoo artist for the many Red Queen customers, he has also designed and built many of the buildings that provide bunkhouse, showerhouse and sanctuary at the Holistic Healing Center known as HAWKWIND. This energy of creation is part of what makes the Red Queen such a special place to find body art, clothing, gifts, classes, friends and personal empowerment programs and so much more.
